The Northeast BC Community Foundation is thrilled to celebrate an exciting moment for our region: the very first Spark Endowment Bursary has been awarded earlier this fall—and we are proud to congratulate Kathleen Laxamana as its inaugural recipient!
This bursary, created through the Spark Women’s Leadership Conference, is designed to uplift and empower women across Northeastern BC as they pursue their educational goals. Kathleen exemplifies the spirit of this award—bringing determination, resilience, and a deep commitment to personal and professional growth.
Pursuing a career in nursing, Kathleen is not only shaping a brighter future for herself but also inspiring her young children by showing them what perseverance, passion, and lifelong learning can achieve. Her journey reflects the very purpose of this bursary: supporting women who are ready to lead, learn, and make a meaningful difference in their communities.
We’re honoured to celebrate this achievement alongside Spark and excited to watch Kathleen continue to shine her light across the region. Her story is a powerful reminder of what becomes possible when community, opportunity, and ambition come together.
